Dr. Abdelsalam is board certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology (through 2021) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (through 2006). He is a frequent presenter at many professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Abdelsalam is also a member of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society and the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology

He completed his Internal Medicine training at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and his residency in Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences of New Jersey Medical School under the direction of Dr. Marco Zarbin. He completed his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University in Michigan under the direction of Drs. Gary Abrams and Dean Eliott.

Before founding Chicagoland Retinal Consultants in 2004, Dr. Abdelsalam was a full-time faculty member in the Pritzker School of Medicine of the University of Chicago, where he was the director of the Adult and Pediatric Vitreoretinal Surgery Services.

Dr. Abdelsalam is Chicagoland Retinal Consultants Managing Partner.

Besides caring for the patients at Chicagoland Retinal Consultants, Dr. Abdelsalam enjoys traveling with his family.

Dr. Abdelsalam is fluent in Arabic and medical Spanish.

Office Locations

In order to have our services easily accessible, we make ourselves available in a number of Chicago area locations, each site organized to support only the care of retina patients. All offices are open Mon. - Fri., 8:30 a.m. - 5:00p.m. We are also available after hours and on weekends, by appointment, for those patients unable to come during regular hours.
